Alabaster, Alabama, is a suburban oasis nestled in central Alabama. Alabaster offers residents and visitors the feeling of a small town with all the creature comforts of a bigger city! This includes highly rated public schools, higher median household incomes, lower poverty rates, low crime and violence rates, high home ownership rates and low housing costs when compared to the national averages.

With over 100 houses on the market, and new ones coming available every single day, Alabaster’s housing market is ideal for buyers who are looking to purchase their first home, are moving to the area or are ready to invest in real estate. The market is also hot for sellers who are seeing their homes sell 1.25 times faster than they were last year. Almost 1,000 homes have already sold this year, and buyers are getting good prices for their homes.

With a population of about 33,000, Alabaster is the largest city in Shelby County and continues to grow each year. Alabaster wasn’t always the small city it is today. In the 1980s, Alabaster had a population of only 7,000. Over the next three decades it would more than quadruple in size. In the 2010’s Alabaster reached 30,000 residents and has continued a steady increase every year since making it one of Alabama’s fastest growing cities.

Due to the steady growth of the area, many new homes have been built and are continuing to be built. The projected housing growth for Shelby County is over 8,000 in the next five years, with Alabaster being one of the leading forces with a projected growth of over 1,300 by 2026. In addition to new housing, the growth rate has helped numerous new jobs and new businesses be created. This has helped the city to become known as a pro-business community. That means that all businesses large and small are welcomed with open arms into the business community in Alabaster. 

In addition to the many businesses and amenities in Alabaster, residents have quick access to downtown Birmingham where they can find all the offerings of Alabama’s largest city and all of its suburbs. Other nearby towns and cities include Pelham and Hoover to the north, and Calera and Montevallo to the south. Both Tuscaloosa and Montgomery sit just an hour away, situating Alabaster right at the heart of the state of Alabama along a high-density corridor of travelers from all over the state and country.
