“I was fortunate to first encounter Stockton while still in college and quickly grew to love the community, its people, and all that nature has to offer here. Since our home is only a short distance to I-65, it’s only a 30-minute commute to work and school in Mobile, where our entire family is involved. Also, living just minutes away from the Tensaw River for boating, fishing, or socializing on the water makes for plenty to do on our days off! We often times spend long weekends camping with our little ones. There is no place like Stockton and we are like most who live here and never intend to move away. It is a place for nature enthusiasts of all kinds with easy access to kayaking, fishing, hunting, or camping. Additionally, numerous parks, monuments, and museums offer abundant opportunities to explore the area’s history and natural beauty!
“At the time we bought this property, my husband had a contractor’s license which gave us the advantage of custom building our home. We chose a wraparound porch as a main feature so that we could enjoy the peace and beauty that this old town offers. Focusing on energy efficiency, we installed low-emission windows, cellulose insulation, and natural gas to heat the dryer and tankless water heater. This has been an amazing cost saver, leaving our average electric bills only $220 in the winter and $180 in the summer. Inside, the custom-built island in the kitchen is our favorite place to get together. When we’re not outside grilling and relaxing on the screen porch, we’re sure to be found in the kitchen; from homework to crafts, socializing or eating, we spend much time at the island’s bar. Aside from that, a good soak in the claw-foot tub in the master suite is a must for relaxing after a hard day’s work!
“My husband and I both have a love for gardening and often times we can be found working in the yard. We take pride in our landscape and have carefully selected and planted everything found here. Many plants and trees have come from Mobile Botanical Gardens or transplants from friends and family. We constructed a patio area with a fire pit a few years ago… the perfect spot to sit around and unwind in the cool weather evenings. We also recently added a boat/RV storage structure as well. In short, every detail of this home holds special memories and will be extremely missed by our family! Deciding to sell was something unexpected for us. We are relocating to a nearby property that will still provide us all of the things that we love about this community, but that has a bit more acreage to allow space for a few farm animals and maybe a little hunting for the boys. We hope for a buyer who will share in love of the community and make many special memories here and in this home!”
